Seminar on ‘ Saga of Courage: Honouring Alluri Sitarama Raju and His Followers’

The Department of Tribal Studies at the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh,Vizianagaram, organized a seminar titled ‘Saga of Courage: Honouring Alluri Sitarama Raju and His Followers’ on the occasion of birth anniversary of Alluri Sitarama Raju.

Honourable Vice Chancellor of Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh, Prof.T.V.Kattimani and the chief guests Dr. Vadrevu Sundar Rao and Mr. Guntha Laxman, orator and social worker from Andhra Prdaesh has inaguarted the seminar by flowring and putting garland to the photo of Alluri Sitarama Raju.

The seminar session has started with the Dr. Vadrevu Sundar Rao who are expert in the area of tribal freedom struggle in Andhra Pradesh. He has narrated the tribal movements of Golugonda Fituri 1886, 1891 and the Lagarai unrest 1916. Gam Mallu Dora, Bonangi Pandu Padal, Taggi Veerayya Dora, Korrabu Kottayya and many others. Presently, Dr. Vadrevu Sundar Rao has engaged in the research and documentation about tribal freedom fighters of Andhra Pradesh. He suggested that, history should address the contribution of tribal leaders of Andhra Pradesh.

The second session of the seminar has engaged by Shri.Gunta Laxman, a well known orator and social worker from Telangana. His talk highlighted the integration of tribal movements and tribal history in the curriculum of social studies.

In the presidential address Prof. T.V.Kattimani, has remebered his visit to the Samadhi place of AlluriSitarama Raju, Krishnadevipeta in Andhra Pradesh. He paid his tribute to the tribal hero and freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju and his followers. Students and Faculty members of the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh has participated in the seminar. Dr. Divya K.Assistant Professor, was the convener of the programme and Dr. Anirudh Kumar, Head,Department of Tribal Studies has delivered the vote of thanks and concluded the seminar.
